Get Back To The Roots (Clean Up Your Life)

A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling like a cold was coming on. Usually my eyes start getting really itchy and my throat tingles a bit. I had a meeting to go to right after work on that particular day. So, I didn’t have time for a sit down dinner. I am slowly trying to stick to eating healthier again. I decided I would just get a smoothie for dinner. However, I wanted something different. I heard of the juice shop Roots and decided it was a great time to stop by.

The menu is pretty extensive and it took me a while to narrow down my choice. I eventually decided on the Clean Life smoothie. There was one red flag though. It had bananas in it, which I don’t like. I typically don’t even like bananas in smoothies because the flavor can over powering. But this smoothie had so many ingredients, I took the chance and got just how it was prepared. The Clean Life smoothie includes activated charcoal, turmeric, maca, cashew butter, banana (of course), flax, honey, brown rice protein and cinnamon. I have to be honest. The drink did not look appealing. It had a greyish brown color and looked a little bit like mud.

Just remember the taste is what counts and it was surprisingly delicious. The drink wasn’t too sweet, although it avoided tasting too healthy. Plus, I knew it would help me feel better. I decided to also throw in one of their shot juices called Roar. The natural concoction consisted of four simple ingredients: ginger, cinnamon, honey and mint. Let’s just say I never got sick and I felt better almost immediately. Make sure you try out Roots to clean up your diet and satisfy your taste buds! Plus, here are just some of the health benefits for a few of the ingredients in the Clean Life smoothie:

Turmeric – Natural anti inflammatory

Maca – helps balance hormones (including stress)

Activated charcoal – Treats hangovers (for those over indulgent, adult Thirsty Thursdays).

Also, in honor of Throwback Thursday, check out my thoughts on Xscape’s comeback (without group member Kandi) and their new EP, Here For It, which releases tomorrow.
